Benazir Town Hawksbay Karachi Plans by Govt of Sindh

KARACHI (Thursday, March 8, 2012) : As part of the election campaign, the ruling party has decided to distribute 700 acres land worth Rs35 billion at the coastal Hawkes Bay area to Jiyalas. The Sindh chief minister has allocated over Rs30 million for the scheme named “The poorest of the poor”. The name of the city is proposed as Benazir Town.

An institution named Sindh Land Management Company has been set up near Golden Point, former Keamari Point, for development of 700 acres land. The Navy has objected to this plan and termed it a violation of the Safety Zone. However, Board of Revenue officers acted unilaterally and handed over the land for the plan to the company.
Project Director of the plan, who is also DG Lyari Development Authority, Agha Masood, confirmed the plan but insisted that 500 acres land had been allocated for the plan. He rejected the impression that plots would be distributed among the Jiyalas only. He said lands had also been allocated in 23 districts of interior Sindh to complete plans of building Benazir Towns there. Waqar Mehdi, Media Adviser of the Chief Minister, said he did not know about the details of the plan. Provincial Minister Agha Taimor also expressed his ignorance about the plan.
