LAHORE (Sunday, April 10, 2011): Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Aashiana Housing Scheme is an excellent project under which modern residential facilities would be available to the poor and the common man on the pattern of the housing schemes for the elite.
He said that the credit for low-cost housing scheme went to the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), which had materialised the dream of the common man to have his own house. He said the project of construction of college, playground and gymnasium should also be evolved in Aashiana Housing Scheme.
Shahbaz said that a low-cost housing scheme had been initiated for the poor and the common man first time in the history of the country which would promote a realisation in the ordinary citizens that they had right to national resources just like the elite. He said that Ashiana Housing Scheme was being developed on high value land nearest to the cities. He said that after Lahore, approval had also been granted for Ashiana Housing Scheme in Jhelum, Sargodha, Sahiwal and Faisalabad and the scope of the scheme would be extended to the whole province.
The chief minister said that allotment of houses in Ashiana Housing Scheme would be made through balloting in a transparent manner and 10 percent quota had been allocated for martyrs, widows, orphans and the disabled in the schemes. He said that maximum resources were being utilised for the early completion of Ashiana Housing Scheme and a modern infrastructure was also being developed.
The CM directed the officials concerned that the project for setting up a 50-bed hospital and extension of a link road from Ferozepur Road to the Ashiana Housing Scheme should be evolved while steps should also be taken to cover the drain passing by the scheme. He further directed that suitable locations should be identified for the construction of college, gymnasium and a playground under the scheme and a detailed briefing should be given to him in this regard during his next visit. He directed the PHA director general to evolve a plan for developing an eye-catching park in Ashiana Housing Scheme.
Punjab Land Development Company Chairman and Member Punjab Assembly Sh Allauddin gave a briefing regarding implementation of Ashiana Housing Scheme.
District Coordination Officer Lahore, Sector Incharge National Logistic Cell and senior officers concerned were present.
