Public Housing Scheme : Shahbaz Sharif Will Distribute 6 Lac 3 & 5 Marla Plots in Punjab
Lahore (January 11, 2012) – Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif gave a detailed briefing to PML-N president Nawaz Sharif on public welfare projects at a high level meeting held here on Wednesday.
Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, provincial ministers, assembly members, the chief secretary, the senior member Board of Revenue, the Planning & Development chairman, administrative secretaries of various departments and divisional commissioners were also present.
The chief minister said that the Punjab government was pursuing a comprehensive programme of public welfare in the province and a number of projects were being executed expeditiously. He said that credit went to the Punjab government for realizing the dream of the poor to have their own house through launching of Aashiyana housing schemes for the first time in the history of the country. The schemes, he added, had better residential facilities than did the housing societies of the elite. He said that, after the first Aashiyana housing scheme in Saroba Attari, Lahore, not only the scope of this project was being extended but land had also been identified for the schemes in 17 other districts of the province.
He said that the work on Aashiyana-II in the provincial metropolis would soon start. He said that 22 model villages had been constructed for the affectees in the flood-hit areas and modern amenities had been provided in these villages. He said that the construction of model villages had introduced a new lifestyle in backward areas and the same model was being replicated for the provision of residential facilities to the masses.
He said that the programme of distribution of three- and five-marla plots among homeless people in the rural and urban areas had been finalized under which 100,000 plots would be distributed in the rural areas.
Similarly, he said, plots would also be distributed among homeless people in cities and towns for the construction of houses and a target of five hundred thousand plots had been fixed. He said that district monitoring committees had completed the process of identification of land in rural areas while a committee had been formed which would submit its recommendations within next seven days regarding the suitability of the sites and availability of facilities. Under the project, he said, development work would be completed before the construction of houses on the plots provided in different areas. Describing 25,000 plots allocated in cities as insufficient, he said that there were more homeless people in the cities than rural areas who urgently needed houses.
Appreciating public welfare projects of the Punjab government, Nawaz Sharif said that welfare of common man and the poor should be the pivot of all policies of the government as they had an equal right over national resources. He said that utilization of the redundant lands of Auqaf and other departments should be considered for the welfare projects and provision of recreational facilities to the masses. He said that maximum land should be identified for distribution among the shelterless people so that more and more shelterless, poor and hapless people could benefit from this scheme. He said that the project of distribution of three and five marla plots in cities and towns should be initiated at the earliest and execution of this scheme immediately started in rural areas after receipt of the report of district monitoring committees. He said that planning should also be made for the construction of multi-storey buildings having modern facilities for the residents in Katchi Abadies of the provincial metropolis.
