Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Aashiyana housing schemes, with the latest residential facilities, had been launched for the poor and common man for the first time in the history of the country.
He said this during his weekly visit to the under-construction Aashiyana housing project at Saroba Atari, here on Friday. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Member Provincial Assembly Mian Naseer Ahmad, the Lahore commissioner and the district coordination officer (DCO), the secretary Communication & Works and officers of the departments concerned were also present.
Punjab Land Development Company chairman Sheikh Allauddin gave detailed briefing on the pace of implementation of the project.
The chief minister said that Aashiyana housing scheme would have all those basic amenities as available in the housing societies of the elite. He said that, after Lahore, the housing project would be launched in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jehlum and Sahiwal during the current month. He said that transparency was the hallmark of the Punjab government and, like other projects, the Aashiyana housing scheme was also being completed in a transparent manner. He said that houses would be allotted through transparent balloting.
He issued instructions for third-party audit for evaluating the quality of work on the Aashiyana housing scheme and removal of encroachments from the areas. He directed the Secretary Communication & Works to form a company on a pattern of NESPAK comprising the best engineers and experts so that excellent designs and early and transparent completion of development projects could be ensured.
The CM also inspected the site for hockey and cricket stadiums, vocational school and hospital as well as under-construction two and three-marla houses.
Later, the chief minister visited the under-construction biotechnology park of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) at Rukh Tera on Burki Road. The university vice-chancellor Dr. Muhammad Nawaz gave a detailed briefing on the project.
